GUIDELINES
Safety guidelines
Most people here are just like you: new in town and looking for good flatmates. These guidelines help you spot the few who aren't.
Before you pay anything
- Never pay a deposit, reservation fee or first month's rent before you've seen the flat in person and signed a contract.
- Pay by bank transfer to an account in the name on the contract. Never by Bizum to strangers, Western Union, gift cards or crypto.
- Always get a receipt for any money you pay.
- In Spain the legal deposit for a home is usually one month's rent. In Catalonia the landlord must lodge it with INCASÒL; ask for proof.
Spotting a scam
- The price is far below other rooms in the same area.
- The owner is "abroad" and offers to send the keys after you pay.
- They avoid a live video call or a viewing, or keep finding excuses.
- They pressure you to decide or pay today.
- They ask for a copy of your passport or bank details before you've met.
- The photos look like a hotel or appear in other listings.
On the video call
- See the room and the whole flat live, not photos.
- Ask them to show the view from the window and the street outside.
- Talk about bills, cleaning, guests and noise.
- Ask who the rental contract is with and how the deposit will be handled.
Meeting in person
- Do the first viewing in daylight and tell a friend where you're going, or bring them.
- Meet the people you'd live with, not just the person showing the room.
- If something feels off, leave. You don't owe anyone a decision.
Protect your privacy
- Your email is never shown. Share your phone number or social accounts only when you're ready.
- Don't send ID, passport or bank details in chat.
Be a good match
- Be honest in your profile; it's what makes the matching work.
- Reply or pass: no one likes waiting.
- Be respectful. Harassment, discrimination or pressure gets an account removed.
